I’m the CEO of a health and wellness mobile application. We provide a database of doctors, hospitals, and wellness centers for international travelers.

What challenge were you trying to address with Dev Technosys?

We engaged Dev Technosys to develop our iOS app and launch it on the App Store. We wanted the app to connect our pre-existing database to our target audience in a user-friendly way. We also wanted developers that understood our brand and what we want our product to achieve.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Dev Technosys was responsible for designing and developing the app. They promised to deliver a live version in three months and then submit it for the App Store’s approval.

What is the team dynamic?

My first point of contact was Yash (VP of Business Development, Dev Technosys) who worked in sales. I then worked with Satyendra (CTO, Dev Technosys), our project manager, as well as Tarun (CEO, Dev Technosys) and Mohit (Team Leader, Dev Technosys). Satyendra had to attend to a personal issue and left in the middle of the project for three months.

How did you come to work with Dev Technosys?

I first hired a developer from UpWork. After interviewing 30–40 developers worldwide, I settled on one, but the partnership fell apart; they didn’t understand our brand, our challenges, and our goals. I then looked to Clutch. I narrowed down a list of 10–15 developers, including Dev Technosys. I chose the Dev Technosys team because they had done work for large organizations, their quote fell within our budget, and they seemed to understand our vision and project goals.

How much have you invested with them?

I spent $3,500–$4,000 on their services. I paid in increments for each part of the development.

What is the status of this engagement?

I worked with Dev Technosys from March–October 2018.

How did your relationship with XYZ Company evolve?

Problems arose from the get-go. The initial designs Dev Technosys submitted to us didn’t meet our standards, prompting me to hire another developer to double-check their work. Once Dev Technosys started the development stage, the project experienced constant delays and shifting personnel. At one point, Dev Technosys claimed that my App Store account was expired and that I needed to upgrade to a developer account for $300. When I reached out to Apple, they told me that my initial individual account never expired and that my business did not require a developer account. When the team finally delivered a beta version, it was full of bugs.

What problems arose and what did XYZ Company do to address them?

The App Store repeatedly rejected the app, and Dev Technosys did not fix or acknowledge what caused the rejection. The follow-up developer we hired found additional issues—particularly with the login feature and payment processing—that Dev Technosys never told me about. The app also experienced frequent crashes during demonstrations with interested parties and investors, much to my embarrassment. I stopped paying Dev Technosys when they seemed to have ended work on the app, and I formally ended our partnership when I no longer felt that I could trust them.

Describe the impact this engagement has had on your business.

Dev Technosys took three months longer than expected to deliver an MVP that didn’t work. As a result, I lost 6–7 months of development time and lacked a working product to show interested parties and investors. I paid $15,000 for a separate user data aggregation API that I haven’t even used yet because the app hasn't launched. As soon as I saw Dev Technosys’s designs, I hired another developer to double-check their work; this cost an additional $3000 that I hadn’t planned for. The secondary developer will finish the app and all testing within the next two weeks. We’ll resubmit the app to the App Store for approval.

How was project management handled?

Our project lacked consistent leadership, and Dev Technosys switched our project manager multiple times. Whenever I had an inquiry, the team frequently redirected me, claiming that my question didn’t fall under their responsibilities. I had to beg for updates on project progress. I also received code in a zip file rather than a more professional tool such as GitHub or Bitbucket.

My new developers call me every day for five minutes to update me on the work they’ve completed and the tasks they’re going to tackle next. I didn’t have that experience working with Dev Technosys.

In what specific areas can they improve?

Erratic and ineffective communication was a hallmark of the relationship. Dev Technosys missed key details throughout the project, demonstrating a seeming lack of care and accountability. Their sporadic updates gave me only a partial understanding of their progress.

What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?

Make sure your developer understands your ideas, your brand, and your goals thoroughly before getting involved with them.

Company Responses

We would like to state that project failure was due the client's poor project management. We advise all clients to hire good project manager, and offered them an experienced manager, but they wanted to do it themselves. They had two teams working simultaneously on the project without a project manager.

They frequently changed project requirements without consulting us, but still wanted to keep the same budget. When we disagreed, they threatened to leave a bad review. Our upper management started to work on this project to make the process smooth, but other developers, who they said they hired from UpWork, failed to deliver. We fully refunded the client on our end.

Regarding issues with the App Store, the client had difficulties because they tried to use an individual account, through which Apple doesn't accept Firm Applications. Apple asked their team to submit details about his company, but they did not, so the application could not be posted.

We do not doubt the client's good intentions, but they were working outside of their expertise, and that is why the project failed.

We mainly communicated through Skype. They’re well organized. They work in different teams, split between UI design and other functions. The development was done seamlessly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They give you what you want. Their biggest strength is that they know what they’re doing; they’re proficient.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could perhaps improve in terms of communication. Both of our groups are from non-English speaking countries.

I'm the CEO of a risk reduction company.  Using data collection, we assess the risks associated with a specific community. We mainly work with fire departments to help them better understand their communities via surveys.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Of a vast array of services, Dev Technosys’ main contribution was developing our signature solution. Our survey and data collection program includes geographic information system (GIS) capability. As completed surveys come in, it plots the answers to each individual question on a map. All the aggregated data is compiled into a report format that’s sent back to our customers. 

Other significant projects they’ve completed are a basic customer service survey and a version for virtual fire prevention. Dev Technosys built our company’s website and has transferred website domains. Now, I use their services for all my digital needs. They're maintaining both the platform and software they created on an ongoing basis. 

What is the team composition? 

Dev Technosys assigned us the primary contact to work as our project manager. He also executed much of the development work along with a team of engineers. I've spoken to at least four resources and know that several other teammates have been involved. 

How did you come to work with Dev Technosys?

I initially found Dev Technosys on Upwork while researching development companies online. They completed a couple of smaller jobs for me; then we progressed from there.

We've spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $28,000–$30,000.

We started working together in March of 2018, and our projects are complete at this point. Dev Technosys is currently in the maintenance stage.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Dev Technosys delivered perfect products that are currently available on the market. We've only had a couple of minor issues that are to be expected with any type of development work. They fixed any problems we found within two days at maximum. 

I've been very pleased with their reliability. That's the main reason why I switched to them. The first developer we used was not trustworthy. Dev Technosys enthusiastically jumped in to replace them. They built upon that partially completed work to generate excellent deliverables. 

How did Dev Technosys perform from a project management standpoint?

The entire process has gone perfectly. We typically limit our communication to email, which is much easier with the time zone difference. On occasion, we've held a few Skype calls as well. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Dev Technosys executes every single time. They’ve never asked for an extension on any task. I couldn't be happier with their time and project management. They’ve hit or outpaced every single benchmark and deadline I’ve given them. That was not the case with our prior vendor.  

Are there any areas they could improve?

From my experience so far, no. Every single project has been on time and worked properly. If one of the links is broken or something's not working exactly right, the team will fix it immediately. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I suggest communicating with Dev Technosys on a regular basis. Regular check-ins are especially important when projects involve programming. If you’re building something from the ground up, make sure that everybody is on the same page.

During initial quotation and requirements gathering, we worked directly with a Dev Technosys Sr. UX Designer. Once the designs and technical scope were agreed, we corresponded primarily with an assigned Project Manager who served as a liaison between us and the development team of roughly 4 developers.

We found them through an online search. We submitted our proposal and requests for bids through multiple platforms. After reviewing inquiries from teams located all over the world, Dev Technosys seemed to provide the best comprehensive package upfront. We continued our conversation to discuss our project more thoroughly and formalize the project.

We started our project in March 2017 and completed it that December.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app is currently available, and people are starting to use it. It took longer to get to market than we’d hoped, but that was mostly attributed to extensive QA. While elbow-deep in development work, any little mistake can seem concerning. Both our teams conducted extensive testing before the launch. As a result, we've only had one crash since deploying the app in March that Dev Technosys was quick to resolve. 

I would measure their success based on user feedback. Since the launch, we've had hundreds of users, and we haven't received a single complaint regarding the design or functionality. 

How did Dev Technosys perform from a project management standpoint?

Overall, I was pleased with their communication. We mostly used email for direct contact. Dev Technosys was highly responsive and sent us quick replies without any significant delay. A day or two could go by without a status update as they balanced other projects, but that certainly wasn’t the norm. 

Being a bootstrap startup, we primarily used a free tool that’s similar to Jira that served our purposes very well. The ticket tracking function had labels for bugs, features, and tasks. It showed me which developer was assigned to specific work and where they were in the process. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I most appreciated their patience. We agreed upon a design document beforehand but had to divert from it in a few instances. We've worked well together to brainstorm alternatives we both found agreeable.  Dev Technosys was flexible and accommodating throughout both the collaboration and implementation. By and large, they were a pleasure to work with. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I've been doing this type of work with remote teams located outside of the U.S. for about 12 years now. One of the areas we can all work on is communication. Anytime you're using someone's second language there are bound to be some misunderstandings. If I could make any recommendation, it would be to mitigate the slight language barrier we experienced on occasion. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Dev Technosys is fair, honest, and gives useful guidance and suggestions to improve the software you're developing. Good products often take longer than anticipated, so clients should have reasonable expectations about the turnaround.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We needed a vendor that could help us think through specific features and functionality during the planning stages and eventually build the product from scratch. Dev Technosys initially provided a demo and walked us through what the features and capabilities could look like. From there, we started working on the platform right away. They built a mobile-friendly website and are now exploring new capabilities across Roku, smart TVs, and more. The team set us up with Amazon Web Services (AWS) for server space and hosting capabilities, and were currently testing the site as we upload media content.

Have an idea of what you’re looking to create before engaging with them, and look to them to provide a demo and walk you through the variety of potential capabilities. They’re very effective in building on your ideas, even if you only give them a few sentences. They understand project goals very quickly.

What was the scope of their involvement?

I designed what I wanted the form to look like and they developed it and our evaluation tool. They developed the evaluation tool first and then migrated it into the application form to make the whole process easier. They also calibrated our scoring system which takes into account things like gender, urban vs. rural geography, and other factors. The WordPress-based solution went live after they tested it. They’re currently finalizing this year’s evaluation tool and are about to test it, which they do every year.

Previously, there was no way to monitor who was applying or possible bias in the application process. Dev Technosys changed everything with their solution: the process is completely anonymous and is based purely on the information the organizations provide. It’s been a great improvement.

How did Dev Technosys perform from a project management standpoint?

We have a time zone difference of about four hours, but they wake up according to our time. Every time I’m at work and send them a message, they respond. We mainly use Skype or email, and when we have errors or bugs, their CEO is really responsive. Sometimes the system will crash or something will happen on the weekend, but I can call him on his cell and he’ll respond and fix it. They provided us reports based on what we wanted throughout development.

Their product works and they’re quick to respond.

English is a second language for them, but we usually find a way past it. Oftentimes, it helps if I take a screenshot of an issue I’m facing—illustrating everything—so that they understand what I’m talking about and can provide a solution quickly.

For someone working with them for the first time, it helps to find a way to communicate that works for them. I realized that if I just write an email, it gets lost in translation. When I actually talk through something, they understand what I want and it works perfectly. You have to be specific.

I needed someone to develop my website and web app.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed my website and web app using Canvas technology, a tool that allows users to customize books’ or multi-page documents’ format, illustrations, and text. Users can order print copies for download PDF files.

The web app has an integrated printing API and e-commerce features—user login and a PayPal integration. The app’s also available in English, German, and Russian. My admin panel lets me upload illustrations and background colors to different categories. Using the printing API, I can manage various book formats and sizing. The management and support functionalities include features for contacts, requests, and frequently asked questions.

How did you come to work with Dev Technosys?

I used Clutch to search companies within my budget and contacted several firms. Unfortunately, some vendors tried to charge me for project assessments. On the other hand, Dev Technosys was very nice. They responded quickly, provided an estimate within my budget. The team also had experience with similar sites.

They know their stuff. The main page got D grade using GTMetrics. However, the team fixed the problem in a day, resulting in a B grade. The app is ready for launch, but they’re waiting for me to order a test copy of a book. There was a point when I changed the way the site’s functionality entirely and they didn’t charge extra to change everything.

The project manager is always available and replies within five minutes. They send me daily updates via Skype and are responsive to feedback. We had used email, but several lost messages made the platform too inefficient.

They’re developing a marketplace to match freelancer with local employers that have openings. There will be payment gateways and everything will be automated. After the site is done, we’ll work on a mobile application for all devices.

I communicate with a group of people including an accounting team, designers, developers, the manager himself, and the owner.

I did an online search and sent emails to several companies to get estimates. I was happy with Dev Technosys’ estimate and their customer service seemed very nice. They also seemed to understood exactly what I was looking for from the first email.

Everything is excellent and I’m very happy with their service. They complete every little tweak that I want instantly. I was always open to their ideas and suggestions, and they were always sharing easier and better ways to do things. I got a partnership with them instead of someone who just waits for my orders. They contribute to the platform to make it better, which I appreciate a lot because I’m a one-man team.

We haven’t had any problems even though we’re in different countries. We’re always able to schedule Skype calls and we’ve had success talking over email.

They understood me right away when other companies couldn’t see where I was coming from. They’re exceptional, and if I change things multiple times, it’s completely fine with them.

Make sure to describe your vision as best as possible. The sooner you get on the same page, the better, quicker, and more effective the project will be. Make sure you understand each other.

We are a healthcare solutions startup that provides on-demand live consultation that connects patients to cancer specialists, especially in emergencies. As the CTO, I manage all IT-related functions to ensure our website performs correctly.

For what projects/services did your company hire DevTechnosys Pvt Ltd?

The project scope was to design and develop a web-based solution that complied with various medical certifications such as HIPAA. We wanted all of the software developed at once, but it was a large project, so we decided to divide it into different phases. We attempted to hire multiple vendors for different phases but that was a mistake. Since they had a number of professional resources to handle any type of technical project, we contracted DevTechnosys as our sole web and app development partner. 

What were your goals for this project?

We were already involved in various domains, but we wanted to move into the on-demand medical industry as a basic need for people. After several meetings with my partners, we decided to develop this concierge health service. We wanted to be able to charge commission from both sets of users through the live video and audio calling feature. DevTechnosys made it happen. 

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We had a challenging time finding a company that had both experience in the on-demand health domain and a good market reputation.  We shortlisted a few companies after initial discussions and met with some of their respective clients. DevTechnosys was among several we felt satisfied and comfortable with, but their instant communication and skillful collaboration ultimately set them apart.  We established a contract to clarify the scope and avoid future misunderstandings and began working. 

Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

Already complete, the first phase included a web portal with health professional and client interfaces like subscription, video and audio calling, and payment and queue waiting systems, among other things. We are currently working on the second phase, which features a clinic-accessible health record management system that allows patients to schedule doctors’ appointments.

What was the team composition?

We were initially assigned six to seven team members, including a project manager (PM), a business analyst, a technical lead, designers, QA specialists, and developers. Although the timeline was somewhat flexible, there were occasions when I found the development process to be a bit slow; I requested some additional resources to expedite things, which they allocated to me at no additional cost. Regardless, every single person on the team was professional, polite, collaborative, and very technically skilled.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Because we have a good clientele and a robust marketing team well versed in many areas, we have not had any trouble promoting this system. Most of our medical clients are using the solution and find it very efficient. In fact, it was our users who requested a mobile application for better patient interaction. We are now working with DevTechnosys to prepare the business model for the mobile application, planning to launch a limited edition with periodic updates.  

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?
The project management was really impressive; every single team member had a superb implementation plan. The Zoho project management system recommended by our PM was very transparent, allowing us to view the responsible person and activity status for all scheduled sprints and tasks. I never experienced any issues with their methodology, as everything was well structured and completed on time. I know first-hand how difficult technical language can make things, but I found them to be very confident in coordinating and implementing complex technical solutions. 

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are a technical business team that understands the industry language and is always ready with a solution. DevTechnosys offers a sales team with a solid technical background in IT, which is fairly uncommon. We were also impressed with their transparent project management strategy. When other companies point to a project’s complexity in order to increase the budget unexpectedly, DevTechnosys truly understands the client’s needs and does not try to undermine project success.

Are there any areas where they can improve?

In today's technical age, IT is advancing by the day; they should adopt more automation so they can accomplish things more quickly.
