Please describe your company and your position there.

Our Company is a Startup aiming to simplify the management and adoption of public cloud. Our product is a self-serve SaaS that will help automate cost optimization, reporting and alerts for the customer's public cloud. It will also allow the customer to orchestrate and deploy their architecture via an easy to use drag & drop UI. I am the Co-founder of the company and wear multiple hats including designing and developing the product, operations, finance & sourcing.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Dev Technosys?

We hired Dev Technosys to develop the diagramming portion of the application. The hire was to be a dedicated resource who would work with us on a long term basis on an agile process.

What were your goals for this project?

The business requirements were simple, to develop a custom design on an existing diagramming library on Angular. The diagraming library was an add on to Angular. This library had an established community on Stackoverflow and a well detailed instructions manual on each and every component. We chose this library out of 5 based on its ease of adoption and customization.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We reached out to 3 companies based on reviews. 2 from Upwork and 1 from Clutch. Interviews usually aren't the best way to judge a candidate. So we gave each of these selected companies a list of tasks with the design files and libraries and a week at our expense to complete these tasks. Dev Technosys had good ratings on Clutch so we reached out to them, they recommended a Senior developer (more expensive) and rather than pay after delivery they recommended immediate advance pay of 2 weeks with a guarantee pay back of 50% if we are not satisfied with the work and not moving forward. We usually never do advance pay, but did so in good faith and since we had a signed contract with them.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

The project was to create an overlay of UI (Design files provided) ontop of the GoJS diagraming framework in Angular and then create icons and lines with some basic functionality like redo, undo, copy, paste that was already native to the library. Not a too complex task, both my cofounder and I are from tech backgrounds and the scope set was a reasonable one for any good dev to execute within given time. The developer really struggled with the tasks, we tried to guide and unblock, but the delivery was barely 30% and we just weren't getting any progress.

What was the team composition?

one resource with a PM and a tech PM and a Business Development manager for billing and contracts/NDA.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

We contracted Dev Technosys on Feb 21st and the contract for the 80 hour test period was signed and the money sent. All design files and tasks list was shared. We had a kickoff meeting with their team on Feb 24th. They took couple of days (~3) to review the files and the framework. In parallel the other companies from Upwork had started and were provided code pushes and daily updates. At the end there was no progress with Dev technosys and after giving them nearly 2 weeks we concluded it just wasn't going to work. We lost 2 weeks, it's critical for a startup. Luckily the developers (Both juniors in comparison) from both the other companies completed all the tasks within the first week (half the time allocated for Dev technosys).

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The project management wasn't transparent. We never got daily code pushes, only text updates that we couldn't verify. We lost alot of time trying to get more details and would get responses after 24 hours. Startups cant afford these lags in communication especially the lack of insights into the development. We tried to get things right but it just didn't help and eventually we decided they just weren't a good fit.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their Business Development Manager was the most vested, he tried to salvage the project multiple times and regain our trust. Sadly the rest of the dev team didn't live up to the resolutions and we were back to square one with no progress and lost time.

Are there any areas for improvement?

They should promote a pay as you go structure to gain companies trust (especially startups) and have full transparency into the development process, regular communication and proactively communicate blockers rather than at the end. Most importantly they should honor signed contracts, we still haven't received our refund or the source code as stated in the contract. We actually have nothing to show (in delivery form) for the 2 weeks we paid Dev Technosys for their Senior Developer. We ended the project after 40 hours cause of no progress and lack of transparency, and that didn't get us our refund either.

The vendor responded on April 3, 2020.

The client started his startup approximately 20 days ago in mid-February. Earlier, he worked with freelancers and, after reliving, searched freelancers and companies to start the project again. He found two other freelancers and us. Due to his limited budget, he began with 80 hours to get the MVP funded. 

He had a good idea, and we were interested, so we started working for 80 hours. Usually, we do not accept a project that doesn’t have a roadmap, and the client assured us that he had a plan ready and had secured funding. He just needed to show the MVP in front of investors. 

We happily started working while the client hired other freelancers for small tasks.

Everything was going well, but, due to sudden COVID-19 pandemic, several countries went on lockdown, and everyone was affected. People assumed that there would be a recession, so the client's investors declined his funding. The client had no choice but to ask for a refund from us after we'd done 80 hours of tasks.

We suggest that everyone should hire freelancers to start a product because they'll give good results. But, in the long run, you'll need a company like ours. We have a clean record with many reviews, and this experience was a 1-in-100 incident. If you need more details, we're happy to discuss. Dev Technosys built the app based on the architecture that another company created. They developed the platform for iOS and Android. 

The product allows people to share their bucket list with friends and family. Users can find and rate bucket lists as well as complete them in a joint endeavor. The items on lists can be anything from seeing movies to traveling. 

Our next conversation with Dev Technosys will be about a marketing strategy. We haven’t released the app yet because we’re waiting for current events to settle.

I communicated with three people but other people worked on the project too.

I found Dev Technosys on Clutch. I called a few agencies but they seemed the most willing to go the extra mile to make the project happen.

We started working together in April 2018 and we still collaborate.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Their work’s well received by us, but we still have work to do. We haven’t done any marketing, so it hasn’t been received by the public yet. 

How did Dev Technosys perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicated via Skype. Dev Technosys broke down the project in a report with dates for when tasks would be complete. When they finished a task, their team sent it to me to sign off. If I didn’t like the product, they made changes. Their team went the extra mile; that’s for sure. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Dev Technosys went the extra mile to make sure that I was happy with their services. When I wanted to add functions, their team made them without an extra charge.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, not much. I wish the project was done a little faster.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Talk to the main people. If you can negotiate, negotiate. Make sure that you have a good team and that the wireframe includes all of the functions that you want because it can be tricky to make changes.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Dev Technosys developed our website. The platform is for both buyers and sellers. We didn’t provide any code; all we gave them was an idea, sketches, PowerPoints on what we wanted the site to look like, a color scheme, and a logo. Dev Technosys built the site from scratch and helped us with the design.

What is the team composition?

I don’t know how many people were on the team. We had two main points of contact, and one of the developers was sometimes present in our meetings.

How did you come to work with Dev Technosys?

We tried to start this project before meeting Dev Technosys. We went with another company, and it was really terrible; they never finished the project and kept delaying us. We were delayed for a whole year just because they didn’t understand the idea and were having problems within their own company. They kept handing us off to new project managers, and we’d have to explain it all over again. By the time they started to get it, they would change project managers. It was just a nightmare.

One of the project managers told us that he was starting with a new company and that it was great. He was the first one we’d presented our idea to when we went to that company, and he told us how good it was. He also told us about his background and how he’d worked on a similar platform to ours. However, he was fired, and he almost scammed us, so that was bad.

We decided to look for someone who wouldn’t scam us, and we started Googling different companies. From our research, Dev Technosys was the best fit for us.

We started working with Dev Technosys in mid-February 2019, and we finished a few days ago.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve delayed the launch a bit, but we’ve done preliminary tests, and the platform is functioning perfectly so far. It can take online payments and handle a lot of orders and users. We tested it with friends, and it works wonderfully. If we market it right, we think that it’s going to be awesome.

People have loved the site. We’ve gotten continuous feedback, and we’ve made a lot of improvements based on that. Dev Technosys was really patient with us.

How did Dev Technosys perform from a project management standpoint?

The communication was great. They never ignored our emails, and their responses were very fast.

What did you find most impressive about them?

If there was going to be a delay or if they were facing a hurdle in the development stages, they told us about it. Our previous provider wouldn’t do that; we’d send them an email and get nothing back. Dev Technosys always kept us in the loop, and they met their deadlines.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I’m not sure how feasible it is, but maybe we’d have finished a bit faster if we had a bigger team.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

The company is great, and clients can depend on them to get work done. Even if they only have an idea, Dev Technosys can help them develop it and bring insights into what may or may not work. It will take a lot of patience to get back something exact, along with a lot of descriptions.

I had done some research on mobile app companies and found Dev Technosys. We had been waiting on whether or not we could receive a provisional patent on the app, but once we did, I began interviewing companies. Of the six I interviewed, Dev Technosys stood out, and I decided to go with them.

Our app has integrated all the features that a Fantasy app required and along with this, it is clone of the Fantasy market leaders including Dream 11 and My Team 11. Dev Technosys deliver the clone while doing the modifications of features and algorithm as per my patent algorithm.

What was the team composition?

In the beginning, we worked with two resources but have substantially ramped up since. We’re now working with a team of 4, including the managers and developers. Dev Technosys has assigned project managers who lead the daily scrum meetings in addition to development managers who understand how stories relate to each other and assign them to individuals.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We haven’t had any client complaints. They’ve been confident that Dev Technosys has been doing well. Although we used them as a partner, they took total responsibility of everything, including project management. They were pretty good and on top of things.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Dev Technosys is very well organized and having an assigned project manager is really helpful. They’re prompt and have never missed a deadline. We use Basecamp, so the project manager comes up with a plan every week for me to review. We have regular meetings to go over the work they’ve done.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The resources were absolutely committed, and not afraid to learn new things. There were no moments when they said something was difficult, or that there was no value in learning it. Dev Technosys was committed to the tasks and the learning process.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I found them to be very knowledgeable in the technology. I don't know that that's unique to them. I'm sure that are other companies that do that. I found them to be very responsive. The process that they use to gather the requirements to make sure that they understood the requirements seemed unique. I had laid out requirements in the RFQ and discussed that with them before they actually start executing.

I asked for milestone payments as opposed to schedule-driven payments. They identified and recommended milestones that were meaningful in terms of work accomplished and product features. Their willingness to accommodate our specific needs was great. It's not easy to have a team that is across the world. I was worried about this issue and it wasn't trivial. Their willingness to work around that was very helpful. I think others could do it too but Dev Technosys did it well.

Dev Technosys developed my entire webpage. I had developed a database I wanted to make visible and user-friendly. Their team worked in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and MySQL to build the web page. The database is available in map form and has a social networking component that allows users to interact with each other.

While the platform is still being developed, the quality of the work thus far is great. Dev Technosys created a user-friendly and eye-catching design. Any requests I have made have been implemented by their team.

Overall, they have been great at project management. They usually answer my questions on the same day or within 24 hours. Our teams were in closer contact at the beginning, when we had a goal to reach every week, but we still communicate frequently. Anytime they have any kind of question they contact me over Skype.

Dev Technosys has understood my idea from the beginning. Where other companies were just trying to get the contract, they had a more full view of the project. They understand what the point of it all is.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Dev Technosys developed both an Android and iOS version of our app. The platform allows users to take a video on their phone, edit it, and then post it immediately. Their team also developed an admin website so I could manage the app. Dev Technosys also developed a payment mechanism within the app, which will pay users who receive a certain amount of views. The Android version of our app is currently available in the Google Play Store, we are just waiting on the Apple Store to accept our app.

I work directly with two project managers, who serve as my main points of contact. I have also recently begun to interact with their development team and I know there are more people at work behind the scenes.

Dev Technosys did an excellent job understanding my requirements and I plan to continue working with them in the future. We ended up needing a second partner for video editing, and Dev Technosys went above and beyond, helping us find the right partner. Their team is focused on the quality of the app and providing the best service possible.

How did Dev Technosys perform from a project management standpoint?

The Dev Technosys team follows an agile approach. Our project managers serve as our mediators. I give my requirements to them and they’ll be sent to the corresponding team. It was really nice to only have one point of contact so I didn’t have to explain myself to multiple people. They send me daily emails and updates.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Dev Technosys is incredibly flexible, working to deliver the best product possible. There are small things that I didn’t foresee since it was my first time developing an app, and they were willing to work with me.

No, nothing comes to mind. We had a great experience working with them.

Have a plan. Our project ended up taking a long time because we had an issue with another vendor involved in the project. Do a complete search before hiring any agency to ensure there are no surprises. We were able to work through any issues, but it’ always better to ask the right questions up front.

I searched a lot to find a good offshore development mobile app company , it was a hard mission. Clutch helped me to filter good options, and after some analysis and case studies, I decided to deal with Dev-technosys because their staff was so helpful and intellectual. On January 2019 , I travelled to Jaipur India to visit this company and It was a wonderful visit , the staff and the owner as well are great people.

The excellent job they did , is dividing the project in 9 milestones after the SRS approval, and every milestone was shared with us to check and approve. This way we got involved with each detail.

Firstly I had a contact to the business consultant Asha who prepared the SRS and case study , then My project were transferred to the development team which consists of project manager Mohit and 2 backend developers , I’m grateful for the owner Tarun as well , he takes care of my project.

My app is at the final of development so I don’t have any outcomes to share yet.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Everything is shared by e-mail, dev-technosys are always attentive, Usually I delay sometimes to respond their e-mails but they never delayed . Also any urgency I got in touch with anyone of them by whatsapp. Even we did a group on whatsapp in case of emergency.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They do anything I ask because they care about customer satisfaction. Sometimes I asked to change something that was not mentioned in the SRS , and they changed. They never said no . This is a trusted company. Tarun who is the owner cares for customer satisfaction.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I know that it’s not so easy to develop a professional mobile app which is the case, but even though I believe that the job can be done faster with bigger efforts , I hope that the time of execution can be improved.
