I’m the COO of an independent insurance agency. We do a lot of merger and acquisition activity as well as fund a strong organic growth program that focuses on the development of newly-emerging producer talent.

What challenge were you trying to address with id8?

We needed id8’s services in building our website. There are a lot of complexities around compliance and when we bring on new agencies for the onboarding process. Our team needed id8’s help in handling all of that.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our initial engagement involved a complete overhaul of our primary website. That was a pretty big project because we had to migrate all of our content, including photos and staff information. Now we’re in the update and maintenance stages. id8 handles the onboarding and linking of new agencies that come in. We don’t always brand them under our company, it depends on where they are and what their local community expects.

Their team also does our marketing. That includes announcements around acquisitions with press releases. Our producer development program uses some of id8’s services to develop marketing and point of sale pieces. These pieces can be used in a variety of ways to support some of the programs that they work on.

The team composition is constantly changing and depends on what we’re working on. There are three sets of teams encompassing a web, external marketing, and point of sale team.

One of id8’s founders was in a mentoring group with one of our producers. He recommended we talk with them and after doing so, we became acquainted with and selected them.

How much have you invested with them?

We invest between $10,000–$50,000 a year. It depends on what happens in that specific year.

Our ongoing partnership began in June 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our internal team is very satisfied with id8’s work. They’re responsive, open-minded, and easy to work with. The website has a different, new look and feel, which we’re very happy about. We didn’t want it to look like other independent agencies’ platforms.

Overall, we look at impact based upon a number of factors. For press releases, we look at the pace and rate in which they get picked up. However, a lot of that is just happenstance. Our website and a lot of the compliance work we do is required. Therefore, it’s good to be out there and on top of things. For the point of sale pieces, we require the development team to quantify the ROI. So far that’s been a huge investment for us and that return comes pretty quick.

How did id8 perform from a project management standpoint?

We correspond through email and conference calls. Overall, we’re pleased with how they perform. Communication is always a challenge between the people executing the tech or marketing request and the user. There’s always a gap around language and those kinds of things. However, our engagement has been typical of almost any engagement I’ve ever had with a similar relationship. id8 does just fine.
 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re fresh. In other words, they aren’t steeped in our industry and that really helps.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They’re a small shop, so I think they do really well with the resources they have.

Make sure you clearly communicate on a regular basis. That goes for any engagement.

It is hard to say apart from us being satisfied because this is graphic design work. We aren’t measuring numbers or bugs per page so I can’t quantify that easily.

How did id8 perform from a project management standpoint?

We’ve had a few challenges, but overall, it’s been very good. We mostly communicate through phone calls and emails.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We trust their work and the people we know there, so I think that helps us out. I don’t know how others work.

No, I think they are fine. I think we would want to focus more on digital design, but they do that now.

We were looking to update our website. Essentially, we wanted to create a website that reflected who we are as a firm. Our former one didn’t reflect who we truly are.

What was the scope of their involvement?

id8 redesigned our website. They handled all of the visual aspects, and we handled all the content. Although we already had a website, their work was basically from scratch because they had to change a lot of aspects.

We worked with three people from their team.

How did you come to work with id8?

A colleague referred them to me. We had used a couple of other companies that failed to deliver the results we wanted. Our team was searching for a new vendor to help us.

The project lasted from July–October 2019. They’re not a formal part of our firm, but they’ve really become a part of the team. id8 is an asset that’s available whenever we need them. I’ll reach out in the future if we need help with branding or marketing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Since the project's completion, the feedback we’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive. This is not just from people who knew about us before, but from new clients as well. We’ve had a number of different clients tell us how much they like the website. What’s more, we feel it’s a true reflection of who we are as a firm. Our team is very pleased with the work id8 did for us and would definitely work with them again.

How did id8 perform from a project management standpoint?

They were more than just excellent, they were exceptional. id8 was extremely responsive and always met deadlines. They asked the right questions and did everything possible to help us along the way.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The id8 team really took the time to get to know us and understand our values, culture, and mission. In doing so, they were able to deliver a website that truly reflected who we are as a firm.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I really don’t think there are. I’m a very critical person because of the nature of my work and my personality, but there’s nothing they could’ve done to improve their services.

The individuals at id8 are extremely competent, highly qualified, and know what they’re doing. The biggest advice I could give is to listen to their recommendations. They do this work for a living and truly care about what they do.

 Our previous brand name was a challenge; no one could pronounce it. We had a tough time trying to articulate our value proposition and what distinguishes us from some of the other providers.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The first deliverable was changing our brand name. We also wanted to convey what it meant and effectively resonate with millennial women purchasers.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We got on the shelves at CVS, like we wanted to, but we began selling when the pandemic started so that sales data is all skewed. Our online sales did see an increase of 300%. In the past, we couldn't work with Walmart because our packaging didn't clearly convey what our product was. After we presented the new packaging again, they immediately engaged with us.

How did id8 perform from a project management standpoint?

I give them an A. They're very responsive and many times we ask them to do things under strict timelines. If you put them under pressure, they'll meet the demand. We typically communicate via email and phone.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their work is fresh, relevant, and their eye for what a company needs is spot-on. I love their professionalism and attentiveness. They run a tight ship.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could give a broader range of options for pricing structures.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would wholeheartedly recommend them for a project. Id8 is a good design and marketing company, but there are skillsets that they don't do internally which they outsource. My advice is to be aware of what's being outsourced and what's internal.

Our company is Sava Senior Care. We’re a nursing home company. We manage over 200 nursing homes throughout the United States. I’m the senior manager of training and development.

We’re always doing innovative things for our nursing homes, and id8 does our employee experience portion, which includes posters and all the fun stuff we do in our buildings.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We have thousands of projects we’ve done over 15+ years. At a high level, we have two huge culture programs in our company: one for our nurses and one for our CNAs. Julie (Creative Director, id8) and her team have created a game board for both of our programs, and they produce all the material for them: pamphlets, game pieces, the boards themselves. They also create all of the postcards we send to employees, all the thank you cards and welcome cards. From soup to nuts, they designed it, and always send us three concepts to choose from. Their work is distributed through all of our locations. Every one of our employees works with id8.

I know the entire team. Julie is my main point of contact. We wouldn’t want anyone but her.

We found them through word of mouth. Someone recommended them to us a long time ago.

One thing I can say is that they give you several concepts to choose from. And at least one of those concepts is always absolutely perfect. I feel like they take the time to learn their clients and delivered exactly what they’re looking for. They’ve hit the nail on the end every single time in the past 15 years.

I give them 199% out of 100%. When they say they’re delivering, they’ll deliver a few days early. We communicate over the phone, email, and in-person – every way possible. They have no problem coming into the office and sitting with us.

Whatever project manager you choose, it’s very important to learn one another’s style. That will help them know what to create for you. Maybe send them some samples and talk them through things.

We had some growth opportunities that we wanted to take advantage of in regards to further developing our brand.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our engagement with id8 was initially centered around building up a second brand for the credit union that was more community-centric. The team helped us come up with the appropriate identity and positioning for the union. They worked closely with us to come up with the final deliverables and go-to-market strategy. 

Now, we’ve wrapped up the initial phase and are currently working on additional materials to supplement the branding work we’ve already done. We’re working on a strategic roadmap of different projects, including web design.

We’ve worked with about five or six individuals, with one or two main points of contact.

We interviewed a handful of companies, but ultimately partnered with id8 due to their presence in our local market and the quality of their portfolio and initial presentation. We felt a great connection with their agency.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Part of our effort involved our senior management team, most of whom have spent their career with the credit union as opposed to in marketing. id8 had to accommodate a range of skills and perspectives with our internal team with every decision, but they performed excellently. The crafted messaging and positioning that appealed to each of our stakeholders, which was instrumental in executing the project successfully. Our initial feeling that they were a great fit for our company was completely right.

How did id8 perform from a project management standpoint?

The team has performed very well. In terms of communication, they strike an excellent balance between keeping us informed and giving us time and space to work on our own deliverables. They keep us on track and allow for enough time in the planning process for us to always make sure we’ve reached alignment with our own stakeholders. It’s been a really stress-free, smooth engagement.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The diverse talent on id8’s team leads to an impressive culmination of options and perspectives. They can present us with a range of choices in terms of naming, design, and even color palettes, each of which appealed to different audiences and stakeholders. From there, they’ve been excellent at receiving feedback and pulling together concepts that make the most sense to us as an organization. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only thing we could’ve done differently would've been increasing the frequency of our face-to-face interaction. The lack of it didn’t hurt our process at all, but it could’ve forged our relationship sooner and sped the project along a bit. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would encourage you to develop a full project plan and make sure you have a good idea of the scope of what you’d like to accomplish. If that’s clear for id8, you’ll have great success.

We’re a small company that’s just starting out, so I was seeking support with branding.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We relied on id8 to give us everything from our name and logo to our package design. I gave them some brands that I admired to assist in the naming process. The designed our packaging in adherence to my request for a sleek and sensible design. They also organized a photoshoot to capture our product.

I worked with two different people. Sometimes, Kristen (Owner) would also step in. She came to our photoshoot for the product.

How did you come to work with id8?

They came recommended to me by a family friend who works with them. The id8 team struck me as being made up of very nice people, which is another reason I decided to go with them.

We started working together in November of 2018, and the engagement ended in October 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The product isn’t out yet, so it’s difficult to provide specific results. But, I can say that id8 delivered great work. Their packaging design was particularly phenomenal — I’ve received great feedback about how it complements the product itself.

How did id8 perform from a project management standpoint?

They were perfect on this front. Communication is really important to me, and I was blown away by their correspondence and how well they managed the project. I was never out of the loop because they’d always update me on even minor developments. We communicated mostly via phone and email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was stunned by how well their packaging design turned out. I was also impressed by their ability to maneuver a project or field that they weren’t familiar with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, not really. I don’t have any complaints. I know that when I hired them, they happened to be going through staff changes, and that was the only hiccup. It really didn’t affect the project much.

Be ready to move. They’re quick, so know what you want, and have everything ready to go. The project will go as fast as you want it to.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I work for the Marketing team with Campus Services at Kennesaw State University. I help manage marketing and branding projects for Housing and Residence Life. KSU houses 5,200 students on campus, and 2,200 of those students live on the North side of the Kennesaw Campus in University Village, University Village Suites, and KSU Place, which were the focal points for this rebranding project.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire id8?

KSU has seen significant growth and change since the housing communities were built in 2008. Since that time, the University has experienced a tremendous growth in enrollment, which has resulted in an increased demand for on-campus housing. In 2015, the University consolidated with Southern Polytechnic State University and launched a NCAA Division I football team. As KSU’s popularity increased, so did the number of tours Undergraduate Admissions was giving on a regular basis. The housing communities are one of the campus tour stops for prospective students, but until this project, there wasn’t much KSU spirit present inside or outside of the residence halls. We wanted to install new branding in the housing communities that created a sense of belonging and KSU pride for the students that lived there and for the prospective students and families that would visit.

What were your goals for this project?

Update existing branding and/or create new branding that displayed KSU’s spirit throughout the pathway campus visitors walk during campus tours. We wanted the walkway from where they park for the tour all the way to where they enter the main part of campus to be branded and create a sense of cohesion from one part of the community to another. It was very important that the project bring KSU spirit into the housing communities unlike any other project had done in the past.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We worked with our Procurement team to begin a Request for Proposal (RFP) for this project. We created an ideal timeline, scope of work with detailed deliverables, and list of goals and expectations. We hosted a kick-off meeting for all interested potential bidders where we gave a tour of the Housing communities and discussed the deliverables. Id8 attended this meeting with several other potential bidders. We had two companies submit proposals for the project, and after careful consideration from our selection committee, we chose id8. Id8 had a portfolio with projects similar in scope, and they had created branding concepts for local communities that we found to be similar in nature to this project.

Describe the scope of their work in detail.

After selection, id8 met with us to discuss the project in depth. We knew we wanted signage on every floor of the parking deck, elevator wraps within the parking deck elevators, new awnings in the visible areas of housing, a wall of perforated window graphics that stretched over 100 window panes, graphics installed on twin 40-foot tall brick walls, branding inside the two-story lobby of University Village Suites, and graphics as you enter and leave the housing community.

What was the team composition?

We worked with id8’s CEO Kritson Sellier, project manager Lindsay Pace, and graphic designer Jess Gerjets. We also worked closely with their partner, Southern Signs, which was the team that brought the concepts to life and produced and installed the deliverables.

The project was executed successfully and we were pleased with the results.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow was successful and we found the communication to be responsive and friendly. Overall, this was a positive experience.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The graphic designs they rendered for this project combined the spirit of the University with KSU’s new brand standards in a way that was very attention-grabbing and appealing for college students. The project manager kept the project organized and helped to keep the project moving forward.

I’m the VP of people at a real estate investment and property management company.

What challenge were you trying to address with id8?

We worked with id8 to put together some recruitment and marketing materials to correctly reflect our brand when recruiting new hires for our staff.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

id8 produced print and digital materials for us. We created the ideas from scratch and provided them with it. These materials were all created for social media channels, including LinkedIn and Facebook. They also did a photoshoot for all of the print materials so we could use them digitally. 

Later on, we refreshed our brand and their team helped us adapt the new brand imagery into the recruiting marketing materials from the previous year. 

They’ve also helped us prepare collateral material for our annual leadership summit, which includes t-shirts, name tags, signage, and agendas for around 175 people.

Over time, I’ve worked with various people on different elements of the project. In total, it’s probably been between 5–7 people that I consistently work with.

We followed a referral from an employee who worked with them previously.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Although we don’t have any specific metrics, the quality has been great. Their work is excellent. Whenever I have a need, they deliver every time. Our internal team feels very positively about their work, too. 

How did id8 perform from a project management standpoint?

They manage the project very well. The project managers keep me updated on the status of their work, calling or texting me if they need something from me. If anything is going to be late, they update me about any changes. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They truly put in the effort to understand our brand to help us achieve the look and feel that we want. Between coming to meet with me personally and trying to know us, they’ve helped us achieve our vision. They adapt well to changes and are creative, too. At any other company that I’ve used, they weren’t as invested in getting to know us as id8 is. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

When we adjusted our brand imagery, we had a bit of a challenge getting the final edits done for the revamped materials. I think we all could have slowed down and spent a little more time upfront going through what we were trying to achieve. The ultimate product was good, but it was slightly challenging and time-consuming to do all the changes over email.

They’re great at what they do and easy to work with, so they’re capable of delivering high-quality work.

I am the Business Development Manager for a Wireless Construction company. We work for all of the major cell carriers building their infrastructure and networks across the country.

For what projects/services did your company hire id8?

Our company has recently undergone a transition in ownership and upper management. Given the major changes we felt that it was necessary to re-brand our company with a new logo and company website.

What were your goals for this project?

The goal of the project was to re-introduce our company, both to our employees and customers. We felt that this was important due to the fact that the company had been in slight decline over the past couple of years and is now emerging with a new vision.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We selected id8 based on their inspiration, knowledge and creativity. Kristin and her team are very good at bringing out certain details that we may have overlooked had we attempted to perform the re-branding in house.

Describe the project in detail.

We started this project with re-branding. id8 met with us to get a better understanding of our company (past & present) in order to capture the true feel of our culture. The id8 team did a great job of providing us with different logo ideas and an explanation of why the logos were significant to our our company.

We next moved to web design where they initiated the storytelling of our company. Their ideas really brought our the true culture of our firm. From their we moved into web development where they put all of the ideas down for all to see.

What was the team composition?

My Director of Operations and I initially met with Kristin to kick the project off and running. We discussed pricing and timelines and how the ideation process worked. From there, I met with the id8 team weekly to gather specific details and manage the process from our end to ensure that they had everything that they needed to keep progressing through the development process.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Our new company website is outstanding. Not only does it properly represent our company and our brand, but it is also a powerful recruitment tool to attract new employees and vendors. It also is a powerful portrayal of our company's support to the military which is something that we take very seriously.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The id8 team was great throughout the entire workflow. Because of the ownership/leadership changes on our end, the process took a bit longer than expected, but that was not due to any lack of focus from id8. id8 understood our challenges and patiently worked through them as they appeared.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

What I found to be most impressive about id8 was their knowledge and expertise. For instance, when I first looked at the design for our new website I noticed that our "About Us" tab was not the first tab to select in our navigation bar. I asked about moving this so that it would be more in line with other company websites, but id8 explained that this was intentional and that our customers would be more likely to select more important tabs which would be more beneficial to our company.

This may sound like a very inconsequential example, but it really speaks volumes to the experience and sound judgment that id8 brings to the table. It's the small details that many businesses overlook that helps separate them from their competition and id8 helps to identify these details.

Are there any areas for improvement?

You get what you pay for. With that being said, id8 is not the cheapest design agency, but they do offer professional services and advise which is hard to replicate by developers that are just merely building freelance websites.
