What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It was a white-label solution, so our success depended on our customer's satisfaction. Our client was happy with the results, and we had a good relationship with them.

How did JatApp perform from a project management standpoint?

We first contacted them through Skype and met them in person. After that, we kept in touch through several calls. Our technical team used Slack and Skype around five times a day to help with management and other issues. They kept up with deadlines and kept the project smooth.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I am not a technical person, so quality communication was key. They always responded well and thoroughly to our questions, explaining every step of the project. Their team was extremely qualified. They even gave us some valuable tips and on how better approach our customers.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Overall, everything was great. Perhaps, they could've given us a discount. However, development is always expensive, so I can't fault them for that.

We are a green manufacturing company that specializes in natural products for the home. We manufacture all the products ourselves, and they contain no synthetic or genetically-modified ingredients. Our main product lines are air fresheners and fabric- and wood-care sprays.

The company was created 15 years ago. During the past three years, we’ve focused on innovating our business process. We’re currently implementing an ERP solution and doing anything we can to optimize our sales process and our interactions with suppliers and customers.

I lead project management, which includes the ERP integration. At the same time, I’m responsible for choosing the contractor to handle the project and coordinating communication with the development team.

What challenge were you trying to address with JatApp?

All our sales activity was managed with a CRM, which isn’t an ideal practice. We kept information about suppliers and customers in an online CMS, and our team had to check pricing and update products manually. We mostly had issues with payments and deliveries. We determined that something was wrong two years ago, when we saw customer growth, and added some new product lines like fabric- and boot-care sprays.

The main challenge was connecting our business with an ERP system. We hadn’t initially planned to write a custom ERP, but it was cheaper to develop something on our own. We’re not a big company, so we didn’t need one of the complex solutions offered by IBM or Oracle. We hired a development company to build something simple and customized. The most challenging aspect was connecting it with our Amazon profile.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We began by writing a list of features that the ERP should have, taking into account the fact that we already had a CRM to store all our client and supplier information. We had to grab that information and create a structured database to ensure that it could be added to the ERP system and managed correctly.

We spent some time on business analysis, creating a roadmap for the development of the solution, and came up with a more structured version of the system. We decided what it needed to include and which parts of our business it should cover. Our inventory management, purchase orders, and sales orders are all currently managed and operated within the ERP.

Right now, the system looks like a dashboard where our sales managers and accountants can manage all the information, either manually or by uploading updated product lists as CSV files with prices and catalogs. Everything goes to the right place and updates the website automatically. We don't need to worry about the information on the website being different from the information on the ERP.

JatApp helped us identify general goals for the optimization strategy, which was related to the ERP integration. They had worked on similar solutions in the past, and it was exactly what we were looking for. They had a good background in the area and a ready-to-go vision and code for an ERP. By adjusting their solution to our needs, we had more time to deal with the business part.

We’ve worked with one developer who has taken care of the back- and frontend of our simple dashboard. Their project manager was mainly in touch with me. At the beginning of the project, a business analyst helped us identify which management parts we should transfer to the ERP. We planned to do more, but we couldn’t cover everything at once. One more backend developer from JatApp helped us integrate the ERP with our Amazon account.

How did you come to work with JatApp?

We analyzed competitors and looked at the solutions they used for inventory management and sales orders. Our idea came from realizing that most of them had development teams building custom solutions.

I searched online for a team with ERP development expertise and found JatApp after a week or two. We got in touch with them and some local companies. At that point, we had a good idea of our goals. JatApp gave us good case studies of similar ERP solutions they’d developed. We liked what they did. It was obvious that they had good expertise in this area.

We haven’t spent too much above $100,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with JatApp in December 2017. The latest phase wrapped up at the end of May 2018, and we’re currently in support mode. We are planning to release a second version in October 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The first and most important result is that it became much easier for us to manage purchase and sales orders, which had caused our sales and financial managers pain before. We've optimized our cash flow inside the company, which was a lifesaver.

I plan to work with JatApp in October again, but we’re not investing in more development right now. The first month of support is free of charge, so we’re not paying anymore. I wouldn’t want to pay more for some small fixes, but they never charge for anything extra. If it takes them one or two hours to fix something, they won't charge a client who’s worked with them for a long time. We’ve been together for half a year, and I appreciate their loyalty to us.

How did JatApp perform from a project management standpoint?

Everything went quite well. We met their team personally when they were on a business trip to our location. I appreciated that, since we usually don’t get a chance to meet outsourced teams. It was nice to meet with their CTO and COO. They weren’t involved in our project, but they knew who we were. They took some time to see what we were doing and what was going on with our team.

The project management was good. We’re still in touch with our project manager, which I like. I prefer to know what's going on all the time, and that wasn’t an issue at all. We never had any major troubles with them while developing the product. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciate that it’s easy to stay in touch with them and that they don’t overcomplicate things. At one point, we were talking to some local companies that offered too many services for our company's size. We didn’t want to integrate overly complicated solutions into our business if we weren’t ready for them. It's good to know that JatApp can build simple yet functional solutions. That's the biggest value they provided.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It took us a long time to gather all our business requirements. We didn’t exactly know how involved this process would be. JatApp gave us too much freedom to make decisions for ourselves, so we spent too much time analyzing and brainstorming. At one point, their project manager managed to take control of the situation, stop it all, and suggest the best solution. If this initial situation had gone farther, we would have gone far beyond our budget and possibly stopped the collaboration.

JatApp expected too much from us. They expected us to be more technically conscious of which ERP solutions our business should have. Thankfully, we didn’t have to come up with everything ourselves. They stepped in and helped us make the collaboration a reality.

I’m the CTO at a company developing blockchain solutions for supply chain.

What challenge were you trying to address with JatApp?

Our product seeks to serve small and medium construction companies that would like to choose their suppliers in a more transparent and credible way. It creates records for concrete or wood suppliers that are stored and tracked in the blockchain platform, upon which construction companies can make decisions.

Our solution requires knowledge of a few different frameworks because the bulk of the code is about blockchain and business logic. We had a hard time finding the relevant expertise locally and decided to outsource.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

JatApp is developing the backend of our blockchain product. They’ve managed all the blockchain-related tasks—processing transactions, validation, the business logic of the supply chain processes. They’ve written 90% of the codebase in Java Minor.

One of the functionalities they’ve built is a smart contract tool. Users can develop contracts directly in the platform based on templates to decrease errors and increase validity.

They deliver new functionalities every two weeks. We set priorities and consult them about it. They develop and deliver the code to us.

From time to time we talk with the developers but our primary contact is the project manager.

How did you come to work with JatApp?

We searched via Google and interviewed a few companies. Our initial contact was with their sales representative based in the US. We provided our requirements and communicated back-and-forth with them. Based on that communication, we decided they had the strongest expertise compared to the other vendors. We negotiated with their sales representative and contracted them.

We haven’t rolled out the product yet but they’re accurate and deliver what was promised. They’ve consistently met our timelines and we’re quite happy with the results.

How did JatApp perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicate through multiple channels on Slack as well as Skype and Zoom. They manage the day-to-day flow of the project. They track tasks, bugs, and progress on their side and share reports with us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

In our case, it's the quality of the business analysis to understand the key risks and challenges and get the business logic right. Our product involves a lot of cases as well as some contradictions. The JatApp team did a good job of getting the business logic right, which is critical for success. They were even willing to challenge us at some points, which is what we like to see in our partners—not just agreeing with the tasks but challenging and evening saying no in some cases.

We’re happy with how they work and their deliverables. They’ve delivered 95%–98% of what they promised. The quality exceeds our expectations. Their QA experts have been able to quickly fix any bugs. They have a good grasp of what they’re doing. We’re happy working with them.

How did JatApp perform from a project management standpoint?

There’s transparency around every stage of development. They have a backlog that we discuss with them and through which we manage all priorities. The developers discuss things directly with the project manager who then provides us with an estimation. They’re good at estimating and managing all of our expectations.

We use Slack and have weekly or bi-weekly calls via Skype to discuss the project’s status. We work in an iterative process. We normally get additional functionality every three weeks. They deliver on time.

They've been strong in delivering what they promised to initially. They are committed to the final result.

Everything has gone smoothly. They require no major improvements.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Try to share all of your technically-focused ideas and business problems with them. They might challenge you a bit. Communicate and share as much as you can. They’ll definitely give an initial structure of the future development process.

I am the CTO of a medical startup developing a mobile app for iOS and Android. Patients and doctors can use the app for managing appointments and initial consultations without leaving their homes. After requesting a consultation, a patient can receive instant, personalized messages from their doctor. We are promoting our business locally, and we anticipate signing our first contract soon. Later on, we plan to expand internationally.

What challenge were you trying to address with JatApp?

We were looking for a development team to continue the work on our MVP. We had built a backend using a previous supplier, but it didn’t work well. The main challenge was developing the product within the deadline and making sure that it would work.

What was the scope of their involvement?

JatApp provided backend development for our native iOS and Android apps. They took some parts of the existing backend but wrote the mobile app from scratch. The Android app was written in Java and the iOS app was done using Swift.

The key feature of the app is booking remote appointments. Another feature is that patients can chat in real time with their doctors and doctors can provide instructions via the app. For an additional fee, we also provide a video-calling feature. Finally, the app also enables patients to order medications using the app.

They’re currently supporting our MVP version, and there are features we are planning to launch in 2018.

I am the remote COO of a U.S. company that focuses on creating and providing a networking app. It allows users to find and be found by others around them using the GPS on a smartphone. Our main idea was to create a simple and business-oriented app with the goal of extending business networks. The challenge was finding a company that could help us with the app.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We asked JatApp to develop a native smartphone app. We sketched out the time and budget estimation. Based on this, we decided to start development on a light version for which users could order extra features for a fee. We gave their team the branding book and design guidelines. 

When first opening the app, users are prompted to create an account with a username and password. Photos can be uploaded to the account. Then, they decide if they want to allow others to see their profiles in full or in part and allow others to find them. There is also a messaging function, but it’s something we want to improve.

We recently updated the latest build to fix bugs and make other improvements. We continue to work with them from time to time on the app’s frontend. We plan to develop some new features in the next three or four months. We want to create a white-label solution based on the app.

Their CTO took part in our first call, but after that, we worked primarily with two mobile developers, a QA person, a project manager, and a sales manager. Their CTO took part in our first call.

Everything went smoothly. Since the first release, we’ve had more than 500 downloads. Users like the app, and several use the paid features.

We had bugs caused by third-party integrations. The first iOS build was better than the Android one, but they fixed the issues.

They provided responsive communications and good management via Skype, Slack, Google Hangouts.

They provided important feedback about our ideas, then we understood that some of those wouldn’t enhance the work well for the app’s user experience. This feedback was valuable to us and we decided to take JatApp’s advice.

The app’s key purpose was to give users the ability to mark interesting places, travel routes, and experiences. While someone is visiting a country, they can log in to our application, log their experiences through different routes, and share them with others.

We started working with JatApp in the early part of 2017. The technical phase has been completed, and we’re currently planning a software release and working on the commercial aspects of the project. Our company’s platform makes shoppable ads that enable web users to buy products without having to go to an e-commerce website. I’m the project manager.

What challenge were you trying to address with JatApp?

We had another team of backend developers in the U.S. who were working on the first version of our platform, but it was a mess. The challenge was to find good, English-speaking, experienced senior developers in a short period of time.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They deal with all the tasks that our CTO gives them which are strictly concerning the backend software. They started with factoring and partly redeveloping the backend that our previous team developed. They’re also working on some additional work for other clients. We have a contract right now with a prominent manufacturing company who wanted to use our platform for marketing purposes.

Our platform will eventually act as a white label solution. We needed all those integrations between the manufacturing company and the ERP [enterprise resource planning] system. Many of the initial months were spent on the introduction of this key contract that we have this year.  

It’s a platform that allows users to make purchases by clicking a link on an ad, eliminating the need to interact with an e-commerce website. Products automatically go to a basket and the system sees it as a purchase.

What is the team composition?

I was initially in touch with their HR department head as they sent me the CVs. There are four full-time senior developers working with the mobile team who are also located in Ukraine. There is a project manager in charge of scheduling interviews and making sure we have the right equipment for communicating with our developers in the future.

How did you come to work with JatApp?

A friend who often travels to Ukraine from the U.S. had previous experience working with JatApp and said it might be worth contacting them.

They didn't have the internal expertise we needed initially, so we allowed their HR team to look for developers who we then interviewed. It took us a while to go through this process and shortlist developers who matched our requirements. We then had to wait for JatApp’s HR to make contract offers to the developers. We found four senior developers within one month due to their help.

We started working together in January 2016, and the relationship is ongoing. We will continue working with them for at least this year because there’s a lot more work to do.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We managed to refactor the work that the previous developers did, which we didn’t think was possible. We took the risk of redeveloping the entire system from scratch. We wasted one year of investment with the previous developer and received poor results.

However, the experience with JatApp has given us great results. The system itself is working really well now. We have more clients who are wanting to become our partners. The prominent manufacturing company is just one of many huge clients. We have great opportunities opening up due to our collaboration with JatApp. The best metric is that the system is live, working, and growing.

How did JatApp perform from a project management standpoint?

We try to manage everything on our side. They communicate directly with our CTO and CEO. We have weekly standups with them as well. We’ve never met in person, but we do chat a lot and have video calls at least once a week. We usually communicate via Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their HR services are the most impressive thing about them. When we were looking for developers, we realized it might take two weeks to find the right people. JatApp suggested that their HR work for us during that time for free. They didn’t charge for interviews, the time their managers spent looking for people, or the time we spent with their project manager.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, everything is going well. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

People looking for backend developers should still consider companies that may not have the appropriate resources right away. Wait for the company to find and hire those resources. Take at least 20–30 interviews to find a couple developers you want to work with.

We wanted to reduce the amount of time people had to spend to receive answers to whether they receive a loan or not. We wanted to reduce the number of people working in some of our departments to save the company money. We decided to have an app developed.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed our mobile app. Our app helps people go through the loan process more easily. They just have to answer some questions. The app is for both the applicants and for our admins who are the decision makers. There’s a special admin panel that allows admins to see the users’ answers, and they make decisions based on that data.

The app is for iOS. They used Objective C. The backend was based on PHP. After we released the app, they did some improvements and added more features.

I like that our requests were answered within 15 minutes. They were fast with communication. I like that they didn’t charge us for bugs that were found. They were quite transparent and we always knew what was going on.

We provide a social media app for the organization of private events. It’s an idea we’ve worked on for a couple of years.

What challenge were you trying to address with JatApp?

It was a challenge to find a good software house to build our app. Every group we approached told us it would be too difficult. JatApp offered to build our app, which excited us, since we thought that making our idea into reality would be challenging.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We brought them our idea along with a mockup of the app. It was difficult to explain the idea, so it was important for us to bring screenshots that illustrated what different buttons would do. They studied our concept over a month-long period and asked us clarifying questions. After this, they worked on a general build that served as the basis for our iOS app, and which can be ported to Android in the future.

The first screen is a map showing different parties created by users. After a host creates a party, it will be displayed within a two-mile radius of its real position. Once a participation request from another user is accepted, that person will be able to see the real location of the party, along with other details.

Another important functionality was around people: someone can choose a location, and see where the nearby people are going to party. There is also a feedback functionality similar to that of Uber. After finishing an event, a user needs to leave some feedback, before being able to use the app again. It involves giving a heart; nothing more complicated like text feedback.

They assigned four or five people to the app development, including a couple of engineers.

How did you come to work with JatApp?

We had a couple of meetings with different software houses and understood that we needed to find a reliable partner. We sent emails to five or six companies, out of which JatApp seemed to be the best option. They liked our idea from the beginning and gave us a professional impression.

We first contacted JatApp 13 months ago, around November 2016. The app was launched in August 2017, but we’ve unpublished it due to some internal changes in our company. After solving our internal issues, we are planning to build an Android version using JatApp.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

JatApp was professional from the beginning, assigning two people just to understand how the app would work.

The overall results were good. There were some aspects that we wanted to change—sometimes based on mistakes from our side—but they were quick to make those changes.

How did JatApp perform from a project management standpoint?

We had a lot of friendly communication, and whenever there was a problem, we could Skype in order to understand it. Beyond just doing what we asked for, they also made suggestions, which we sometimes went for. The best thing someone building an app can ask for is to find a team that helps improve that app, rather than just create it.

We made some changes to the general build, which extended the iOS development to two or three months. They completely respected our timelines. We tracked bugs through a file. After fixing those bugs, JatApp would send us a new build.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their willingness to study our idea and ask questions was what made the difference to us between JatApp and other software houses we approached. Others simply asked for the project, without asking anything.

The communication was very good; they were friendly and full of ideas. We continue our collaboration and are in contact almost every day.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Based on our experience, we have nothing to complain about.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Finding a good and functional model is a matter of luck. Our budget was big, but not huge, yet we found an amazing way to build our product. This can be different for other people, depending on the company, the ability to spend money, and finding a good partner.
