Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the growth lead in Brazil for a San Francisco based fintech startup. I’m responsible for executing our performance marketing strategy and analyzing key metrics in order to acquire waitlisters and users for the app.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Wight Visuals?

We needed to create a catchy animated video to highlight the features of our investment app, to be published on our website and social media profiles. Later on, after the success of the first video, we also decided to continue working with Wight Visuals in an animated video about another product.

What were your goals for this project?

By publishing the video on our website and social media profiles, the goals were to increase the conversion rate of our landing pages, convey credibility and highlight the features of our app in an easy way to understand. This way, we wanted to acquire more waitlisters for our upcoming app.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

My team searched for video production companies in different freelancer websites. We compiled a list of 9 options, contacted them and heard their initial pitches. After analyzing previous jobs, success rates, time frames and quotes, we selected Wight Visuals to work with us. Their initial contact made a difference for us, as they were really thoughtful with their ideas and, from the beginning, showed themselves as a very helpful team, looking to solve our needs and work together with us.

Describe the video(s) and the process in detail.

They’ve created two videos with us. For the first one, the time frame was really tight due to our business demands. They embraced that and started working fast from the moment we shared our video script and storyboard with them. They worked on the concept for the video, analyzing the market, suggesting script updates, describing each scene, visual style and music, all in great detail.

After getting feedback from us, they worked on the storyboard, sketching main illustrations, and then worked on the soundtrack. Then, they provided final versions of illustrations, worked on the animations and finally delivered the video.

Between each step, of course, there were necessary revisions and discussions between our teams. For the second video, the process was similar, but in a much more flexible schedule, so we were able to dive deeper into each step.

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

There was one main point of contact for us, who handled everything we needed from them and was great at structuring the project, giving updates and receiving feedback through email.

He was a very organized professional who was able to perfectly address our needs to his team. After each step in the process, he was open to our ideas and suggestions, and worked well with our team in any necessary fixes. Even after the project had ended, he was available to help with a small fix that wasn’t addressed by our team initially.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We had thousands of views in our videos and were able to acquire thousands of waitlisters with the videos in our landing pages.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The project manager assigned to us was a great person to work with, being really attentive to details, thoughtful in his ideas and concerned in delivering the best to us.

Through constant updates, on time deliveries and structured documents presenting their ideas, he was able to give us a clear expectation of how the video would turn out in the end. There were no surprises, and their process made it easy for us to work together in this project.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their skills in designing, animating and creating wonderful videos. I was surprised by the quality of their work and they exceeded my expectations.

Are there any areas for improvement?

As we had two people from our team working with them, I felt like communication could have been handled in a better way to keep everyone updated at the same time. Centralizing communication in one place, like emails to everyone involved, could work better than using private channels every now and then, even when there were small updates or questions.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We’re developing a personalized travel guide in the form of a mobile app that helps travelers around the world discover new places and activities. The app allows users to plan their trips easily and in a fun way. I’m the head of design for the company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Wight Visuals?

There were a few challenges we were trying to solve, the most interesting one being the optimization of our homepage with the help of an explainer video. We also wanted to solve some UX issues by making UI animations.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’ve worked with Wight Visuals on multiple projects. For the explainer video, we had a basic idea of what we wanted to achieve, and we provided Wight Visuals with screens. They made all of the transition animations and added some copy. The team took care of editing and they also found a jingle. The end product was 40–60 seconds long. 

They’ve also done UI animations, which they’ve added voice messaging to. Our last project together was making illustrations for our onboarding process. They provided five illustrations. We still go to them for feedback and minimal tasks.

What is the team composition?

I believe they assigned three illustrators. One of them did sketches, another focused on how to develop those illustrations, and the third worked on the animation itself. I only communicated with Yaroslav (Co-Founder & Creative Director, Wight Visuals), and I wasn’t in contact with outsiders. Nonetheless, I’m quite happy with what we achieved. There were no communication issues, and everything went smoothly.

How did you come to work with Wight Visuals?

We’ve worked with Yaroslav for quite a few years, and I helped him with some projects while I was freelancing as a UX designer. He also helped me quite a few times. 

When I joined my current company, we chose Wight Visuals to help us make an animation. We didn’t look at other providers. We waited for a couple of weeks until Yaroslav and his team were available.

How much have you invested with them?

I wasn’t in charge of the finances. The smaller projects cost below $10,000, but I can’t provide an exact number.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with Wight Visuals between November 2018–August 2019.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We tracked different elements. Daily installs went up by at least 200%–300% after the video was deployed. One of the more tangible impacts was that expectations became much clearer. We delivered the value we wanted to deliver. Now, when users visit the app store, they already understand how the app works, how simple it is, what the UI looks like, and so on. We’ve solved a number of UX challenges with the UI animations as well.

How did Wight Visuals perform from a project management standpoint?

We’re super happy with how the project went and the results overall. Wight Visuals integrated into our design process, and the communication was more than good. They always provided sketches, not only for the final designs but also to show us what didn’t work. 

The handoff was also quite smooth; we didn’t even need to explain that we needed videos in two resolutions. We exclusively used Slack for communication and Dropbox for file management.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Yaroslav is an old friend of mine, and he delivered much more than I expected in terms of communication. It was a pleasure to work with him.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Growth could be one of the things to focus on so that they can take on more projects. It’s sometimes hard to get them to work for us, but it usually takes much less time than it could.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Clients should trust Wight Visuals to take charge and come up with interesting and unusual designs. I can understand the need to take full control of the outcome, but, as a designer, I know that other designers need freedom.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I work for a software company that provides live streaming tools to live streamers and creators. I am the art director and designer. I source other designers and teams to provide designs for our platform, and I also create my own content.

What challenge were you trying to address with Wight Visuals?

We have an asset library in our software that allows live streamers to download graphics. We've provided over 1,000 free designs, and Wight Visuals helped us with animated graphics for that library.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They were very responsive to our analytics. We have an install counter on our graphics, and they were very keen to come up with fresh and exciting ideas that would perform well on the platform and attract higher user acquisition. They constantly looked for new ways to bring more users to the platform, and they also acted as consultants.

What is the team composition?

I have one main point of contact who acts as their team's mastermind.

How did you come to work with Wight Visuals?

I found them on Upwork, and felt they'd be a great fit after looking over their animations. Their skill level matched us perfectly.

How much have you invested with them?

As of now, we've invested around $18,000. We pay them a flat fee for each graphics package they deliver.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in April 2018, and the collaboration is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Their work is always top-notch and fresh. They work hard to deliver graphics that other designers don't, and their content sticks out above everyone else we work with. Partially thanks to the work they've provided, we've reached over 10 million installs of our graphics.

How did Wight Visuals perform from a project management standpoint?

Our project manager is excellent. He's very open to feedback, and his revisions are always very timely. They're great communicators and are great to work with. A lot of our communication is through email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their response to feedback and ability to pivot to new ideas is exceptional. They found ways to generate more installs, and they attracted a lot of new users to our platform through their designs.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything they should improve. They're great to work with, and they're always willing to change as needed. They don't have any noticeable flaws.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Give them as much detail as you can so they can make sure their designs perform well.
