I’m the CEO of a cannabis marketplace provider in Canada. We have an in-house team of four developers, a couple of salespeople, and an overseas support team on the marketing side.

What challenge were you trying to address with Peiko?

Initially, we needed help to get our marketplace off the ground.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Peiko has helped us with web design, mobile app development, and UI/UX for 4–5 projects. We’ve started hiring in-house, but they’re still on our team. I’m not a technical person, so I just speak with them; Peiko is responsible for turning my words into the products we need.

The discovery call was a lot of back and forth so they could understand what we wanted and how to tackle our project. From there, the team outlined the features we’d need for the marketplace, including an admin panel on the backend to set up stores. We then signed the contract.

Nearing the end of the project, Peiko identified new points of interest in the industry. They were learning a lot about cannabis in Canada, so they shared many great ideas with us. Afterward, we started different side projects.

They’re currently helping us with mobile development for a delivery application that ties directly with our marketplace. Our retailers have some trouble with last-mile deliveries of products. We’ve built the backend, and Peiko works on the frontend and user flows. They’ve also connected APIs with our point-of-sale partners.

One of the features that none of our competitors have is that every retailer on our marketplace has an index of all their products. Shopping customers can sort through specific types of products in every single store in Ontario and see where to find the item and the closest store. Users can also purchase it directly from the website. It was a challenging feature to get down because each of our point-of-sale partners has a different API structure. We had to create our own database and give it a particular format to develop this search tool.

Additionally, Peiko’s team does a lot of testing for the iOS application. Before that, all the UI/UX projects were done on Figma.

We have 7–8 teammates assigned. Dmytro (Frontend Developer) is our account manager, Nikita (React Native Developer) is the project manager, and Kristina (UI/UX Designer) is the one who designed our website.

We posted some ads on Upwork, and Peiko reached out to us. They messaged us and took note of what we were looking for. It was smooth sailing from there.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’re still in the soft launch phase, but Peiko’s work has allowed us to get our footing in the industry. Initially, we contracted a team overseas before Peiko, but it was quite a failure. The mobile application they developed didn’t look good, and we weren’t comfortable approaching customers with it.

When Peiko came in, they revamped the whole image, and we were able to make the right connections to get the confidence we needed. Since then, we’ve seen better traction and gone from two to over 25 customers. Overall, we’ve continuously improved our product with them.

How did Peiko perform from a project management standpoint?

Nikita is our project manager, and his work is very thorough. He always describes the scope of work so there’s nothing hidden in the mix. We’ve expanded the project scope a couple of times, but it’s been on our side. The fees have increased in those cases, but Peiko never slides anything in there.

The team speaks English, but they’re based in Ukraine, so some of the team members have a language barrier. However, Dmytro and Nikita keep the project running smoothly.

Moreover, Peiko works efficiently in two-week sprints and keeps us involved. They’ve set up a panel for us to look at what they’re working on. We have weekly stand-up meetings to reconnect and see what’s going on. If we need to make any changes, we can easily message them on Slack. They’re always responsive and quick to implement changes. Additionally, we use Google Docs and Google Sheets to share information.

Dmytro, Nikita, and Kristina are our shining stars. We talk to them all the time and enjoy working with them.

Their most significant strength is their tech knowledge; they’re excellent at what they do. Additionally, their customer service on all levels is astounding. They're just a wonder to work with; there’s never a dull moment.

The most important thing is to nail down the scope of work. Everything is set in stone once that’s agreed upon, so it’s just a matter of time before you get your products.

The team did a great job, meeting both our needs and those of the stakeholders. Plus, their ongoing support with updates, fixing issues, and adding new features keeps the project on top form.
