More than 9.4 million children are enrolled in primary and secondary schools in Uganda. Allthese need exercise books among other stationary materials to study well.Exercise books are stationary items required for schools, offices and other purposes. Theirmarket and demand is high since they are used by most pupils and students. That is why it makessense to invest in producing exercise books.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Products and Services

We shall produce long double ruled black book of 2, 3 and four quire. The services offered include consultation, placement of orders, delivery and customer feedback.

One box of A3 paper contains five reams, each with 500 papers. This makes up 2,500 papers. With these papers, we are in position to make 50 books of 4-quire size. The same box can be used to make 92 2-quire books. Accordingly A 4-quire has 384 pages and an A4 2-quire has 192 pages.

A large sheet of parchment is used to fold paper several times in order to produce several pages for a book. The term quire is used to describe a set of leaves that are grouped together. A single sheet of paper is folded and cut in order to produce a quire, with four leaves (eight pages, front and back).

Therefore to make a book, it takes a manual process of obtaining A3 plain papers, having them ruled, folded in sets of 9 papers for a 4-quire before they are woven together. After that, one needs a hard piece of paper called a board, marble and synthetic leather cover and glue. The books are then trimmed before they are packed for sale.

Market Analysis

Exercise books are sold in stationary shops, markets, wholesale shops, retail shops and on streets. There is a ready market throughout the country as more and more children go to school. The UPE and USE programs have boosted the numbers.

Source of Supply of machinery, equipment and raw materials is procured locally although it could also be imported from countries like Japan, South Africa and China.

FasterCapital has made our books sell in stationery, wholesale, and retail shops, markets, and on the streets. There is a ready market throughout the country as more and more children go to school. The UPE and USE programs have boosted the numbers.

For example, one angel capitalist said, “PELO Tour Lodges’ partnership strategy with NGOs, sports federations, and tour operators is smart for market penetration, but I want to see more concrete MoUs or letters of intent to validate these claims.”

In response to this feedback, we’re currently finalizing MoUs with two national sports federations and letters of collaboration with three tour operators. These will be available for investor due diligence prior to closing the funding.
