I’m a lead department assistant for Southern Reporting, Inc., a court reporting firm located in Columbia, South Carolina. We offer court-reporting services across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.

What challenge were you trying to address with Big Red Jelly?

We needed help with updating our website because it had been a while since we last updated it, so we wanted a new design that would better fit our company’s current state. We felt that our original website was very confusing and had a lot of bad links. Additionally, our website wasn’t collecting the data we needed, and we wanted to find ways to simplify our processes through a new design.

Our overall goal for this project was to simplify our website so that it was easier for new and returning clients to find what they needed. Moreover, we wanted to integrate our resources into that site so that users could access all the information they needed from us.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Big Red Jelly redeveloped our whole website. Our former website was on Wix, so they built us a new one on WordPress. Their team didn’t touch anything related to our branding; they only focused on designing a simpler website. Although they also implemented small SEO tactics, they recommended working with a company that focused on SEO if we wanted to go that way.

Our main goal was to provide our audience with a clearer website, so we requested Big Red Jelly to simplify everything. Thus, they changed every feature to make them clearer. Throughout the process, they worked with us to help us recreate each page based on our older website. They also gave us two options for the color scheme for us to choose from.

As for the main features, they added a dropdown menu where users can access our homepage, our services, and an online scheduling system. Big Red Jelly also added a payment processing feature and a FAQs page.

Before this project, our older website had three different dropdown menus to display our services. Therefore, Big Red Jelly also integrated those menus into one, helped us redefine each service, and made the menu into a bubble.

Additionally, they created forms and implemented them into our website, including an incognito form and FAQ-related form where users can leave additional questions. Big Red Jelly also made it very simple for users to scroll through our website so that they don’t have to scroll down very far.

We mainly worked with Mercedes (Build & Support Strategist) throughout the project. Initially, we also worked with another teammate from, who took our first call and introduced us to Big Red Jelly. Once the website was live, we also worked with another teammate who gave us some recommendations and an overview of what to expect in the future.

How did you come to work with Big Red Jelly?

Big Red Jelly came from a referral. Originally, we found one of their partners on Google, and they recommended working with Big Red Jelly. Throughout the vetting process, we were in contact with them multiple times as we were looking at various companies. Initially, their quote was very high, but they were willing to work with us and reduce the quote.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $3,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with Big Red Jelly from around November 2022–January 2023.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Thanks to Big Red Jelly, our website now has simpler pages. Although it took us a while to get to the end result, it was worth it. We really liked the homepage they implemented, as well as the site background and colors we defined, because we felt those made more sense for our company. Moreover, every font size and color fit within that color scheme, which makes our entire website feel very coordinated.

After launching our new website, we noticed that a lot of our clients started using the forms and features Big Red Jelly created, specifically the scheduling and payment processing features. Unfortunately, our visibility on Google decreased, so we’re now trying to find an SEO company to help us with that. Still, we expected a decrease when launching a new website, and we knew that Big Red Jelly’s SEO work wasn’t significant for it to prevent this issue.

How did Big Red Jelly perform from a project management standpoint?

Big Red Jelly set a strict deadline of five weeks to complete the website, and they met it. Throughout the project, we met every week with Mercedes via Zoom to discuss the progress. We also used Google Drive and Google Sheets to manage the content because we had to rewrite all of the content for each page. Moreover, we used Gmail and Outlook to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

From the start, we chose to work with Big Red Jelly due to their friendliness and willingness to work with us around our budget. Moreover, their team was very kind and knowledgeable about what they were doing.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We met every week to discuss the website progress. However, it would have been great if Big Red Jelly updated the website with the new material we provided every week a few hours before each meeting. Oftentimes, we didn’t get to see progress until we were in the actual meeting, so we felt as if those were product review meetings.

This approach wasn’t necessarily helpful in our goal of updating the website and finding what we needed. Thus, it would have been better if we had access to the progress beforehand so that we could provide better feedback on changes needed during those meetings.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Consider the content that you want to include in your new website beforehand and have it ready before working with Big Red Jelly. That way, once you start working with them, they don’t have to way on you for the content to be produced or photos to be taken.

They gave us a professional and visually appealing website and trained me on how to edit the whole thing. They exceeded all timeline expectations and got us our assets ahead of time because we had an event on the horizon.

Big Red Jelly created our color palette, logo, brand book, and website. We started with the branding process, where I shared my ideas for our messaging and visuals and provided some examples of things I’d seen online. Then, the team presented various images and narrowed down my preferences to determine clear and organized brand guidelines. We went through 2–3 versions of revisions before the team created the final logo and color palette. 

We used a similar process for the website. First, I shared some ideas, sample websites, and content with the team. Then, they designed and developed our website from scratch using WordPress and other plugins. We purchased our domain directly through Big Red Jelly, and they helped with the organization, layout, and flow of the website.

The website serves two purposes: to advertise our services and educate users about economic investment policies to help them invest and manage their money. It combines the themes of professional services and educational websites. We plan to continue working with Big Red Jelly in the future to make improvements and updates to the site.

We haven’t implemented Big Red Jelly’s efforts yet, so I don’t have any metrics to share. However, they delivered high-quality work and handled all the website development components. They brought significant value to the project and shared innovative ideas I never would’ve thought of. I’m glad we decided to engage them because they’re experts. 

How did Big Red Jelly perform from a project management standpoint?

Big Red Jelly was a very organized, timely partner. They followed a straightforward process, making it clear they’d completed similar projects in the past. Communicating with them was easy, and I could always reach out with any branding or website questions. 

They worked in five-week spans, holding us accountable for delivering what we needed. We communicated weekly via email and collaborated via Google Workspace and other Microsoft tools.

My previous website was really focused on my personal brand — it didn't highlight the consulting business that I had developed. I needed to build a website that would cohesively highlight the personal brand I built as more of a consulting company.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Big Red Jelly developed a website that combined my personal brand and my sales consultancy brand. We started the engagement by discussing the three revenue platforms our company makes and how we can put them all together on one page without having to reroute to other websites. They then provided me with a few options on how to best have the site set for monetization, and the options they gave me were the best that I've heard in terms of keeping everything streamlined, seamless, and on brand.

Big Red Jelly then built a WordPress site from scratch. The site allows users to request information on my company, see testimonials from previous clients, and request workshops. Our primary goal for the site is to bring visitors to our sales pipeline.

We don’t have any metrics yet, but I’m really impressed with Big Red Jelly’s work. When I worked with a previous designer, I paid a little bit more and got only a fraction of the quality of work. Big Red Jelly listened to everything I said and brought everything to life.

Big Red Jelly performed well in terms of project management. All feedback I shared with them, they implemented immediately, which was really helpful.

We used ClickUp for project management, and we typically communicated through email and Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was most impressed with Big Red Jelly’s responsiveness. They had an incredibly fast response time — they answered all of my inquiries and questions within a business day. Overall, the professionalism that they carried was significantly greater than what I had prior with my previous web designer.

No, I don’t have any constructive feedback. It was an incredibly seamless experience.

Make sure to have clear goals on what you want to achieve. I've probably worked with four or five web designers over the past 20 years, and what made this project successful was my clarity. I was crystal clear about what I wanted to happen, and Big Red Jelly followed my direction really well.

I felt like it helped some people decide who they wanted to vote for, and I believe that with Big Red Jelly’s help, I had the highest quality website out of all the candidates who ran for the position.

They met all the deadlines and stayed on budget for everything. We communicated via email, and Big Red Jelly created videos with tutorials and explanations on how to fix things on the website, which were easy for me to follow.

They completed the website very quickly, and Naomi immediately understood what I was looking for. We worked well together as a team, and their prices were very impressive. Big Red Jelly was thorough in their work, and they always made sure that they were communicating everything. I was particularly impressed with Naomi and the level of support she provided. The team was creative, and they wanted me to be successful. 

After working with Big Red Jelly, I learned that website building wasn’t as scary as I initially thought.

The treatment I had during the building phase was wonderful, but once I switched to maintenance, the service dropped off a bit.

Be very clear about what you want to communicate and know your message and color scheme. Know how much feedback you want and how often you’re going to attend to the website, and make them aware of your expectations. You should also be clear if you want a generic website or if you want more uniqueness to it.

My website was already set up on Wix, and I liked it, but we just needed to update some parts and add to it. Big Red Jelly has been responsible for updating my website with new photographs, listings of showings, and explanations. Additionally, they’ve updated a section on my late husband’s paintings. They’ve also been responsible for hosting the site.

We had a problem at the beginning of the project because Big Red Jelly didn’t understand that we just wanted to update the site and add to it. Instead, they wanted to redo the entire site. Ideally, the website would’ve been complete by now, but it’s still not finished, and the team has been making corrections to it. 

How did Big Red Jelly perform from a project management standpoint?

Getting on the same page as Big Red Jelly has been challenging. We’ve spent hours gathering information and making requests for corrections via email, which they haven’t followed; the website still hasn’t hit the mark. 

We’ve used phone, Zoom, and email to communicate. They’ve been extremely good at delivering on our requests when we've spoken with them directly. During phone calls, Chloe has confidently and capably implemented our feedback. However, trying to get things done via email has been a disaster.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Big Red Jelly’s biggest strength is making corrections via phone when we go over the website page by page. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Big Red Jelly could improve by listening to what we’re asking for and doing it that way.
